Job Description

ICF is currently seeking a mid to senior level Archaeologist to be based in Seattle, Washington or Portland, Oregon. The objective of the Archaeologist position is to serve as a technical lead and project manager, providing quality cultural resource services to public agency, utility, and land development/management clients. The ideal candidate will have a balance of experience in archeological evaluation and analysis, project management, and business development.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership in archaeology, business development, and project management.
  • Contribute towards cultural resources development efforts within subject matter expertise, including publication or participation in events and conferences representing ICF.
  • Provide resource lead and technical support in field and office settings. Develop resource management recommendations, assess project effects on resources, and provide high level support to address complex resource problems and issues that require advanced technical or regulatory knowledge.
  • Evaluate resources for National Register of Historic Places and Washington Heritage Register.
  • Perform QA/QC for reports or documents.
  • Manage projects related to environmental compliance and resource management, including client contact, budget control, invoicing, schedule, personnel allocation/planning, public interest facilitation, technical approach development, and subcontractor involvement.
  • Work in a collaborative, integrated team of engineers, scientists, planners, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Integrate with clients to achieve long-term objectives and efficiencies, such as programmatic strategies from front-end siting and routing analysis and feasibility studies through implementation, operations, and maintenance.


  • Master’s in Archaeology or related field.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist certification.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in cultural resources management.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in project management.
  • Proven experience or interest in business development.
  • Familiarity with Pacific Northwest cultural resources and associated regulatory environment.
  • Creativity in applying archaeological concepts to address regulatory requirements.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills to contribute and thrive in a progressive, team environment.
  • A desire to excel and passion for rewarding work on complex environmental challenges.
  • Working knowledge of SEPA, NEPA, NHPA, and other state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Strong fieldwork skills including pedestrian and subsurface survey, testing and evaluation.
  • Use of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
