Transportation Data Specialist
ICF’s Transportation Practice specializes in addressing complex planning, policy, and program issues at the nexus of transportation and the environment, energy, and communities. ICF’s work focuses on integrated approaches that support sustainable transportation decisions, addressing mobility, safety, environmental, social, and economic effects of transportation. Our work includes strategic planning, research, policy analysis, outreach, training, and program evaluation for federal, state, and local governments, including the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Transportation Research Board, state transportation and environmental agencies, and metropolitan planning organizations. Our work often includes evaluating the impacts of infrastructure projects, programs, and government policies; developing guidebooks; and documenting best practices related to integrated planning, transportation operations, and the environment.
We are seeking a Transportation Data Specialist responsible for planning and completing projects and tasks in our Washington, DC office. The successful candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Transportation data related to freight and/or passenger travel and traffic flow, with the ability to conduct complex data analysis and visualization
- Performing geospatial analysis and proficient in the use of Geographic Information System tools
- Use of scripting languages and software coding and use of software packages such as ESRI’s ArcGIS suite, QGis, TransCAD, Cube Voyager, SAS, Python, or R, as well as Excel macro development.
- Visualization of transportation data and development of interactive dashboards in software such as Tableau, Power BI, etc. Proficiency in the use of ETL, data mining, and machine learning tools would be considered as an advantage.
- Regional transportation system management and operations concepts, including Integrated Corridor Management (ICM), Active Transportation and Demand Management (ATDM), intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and reliability issues
- Transportation asset management concepts, benefit-cost analysis, and system condition and performance assessment
- Transportation system performance analysis concepts, including the analysis of system performance data and probe data such as RITIS NPMRDS, INRIX, and ATRI
- The candidate will work directly with clients and senior staff, as well as internal and external experts in their field of expertise.
- Contributing to the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff
- Conducting geospatial analysis of transportation networks and related transportation data
- Interacting and communicating with clients
- Developing technical reports, guidance
- Master’s degree in civil engineering, mathematics, economics, or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in transportation data analysis, transportation systems management and operations, Intelligent Transportation Systems, traffic management, planning for operations, or asset management
- Master's degree in transportation engineering or systems engineering
- Experience conducting transportation projects for US DOT, TRB, state DOTs, and/or other public sector transportation agencies
- Government consulting experience
