STUDENT JOB OPPORTUNITY – FIELD RESEARCHER
ICF is looking for students to help deliver a large, international project for the European Commission on nutrition. This is a paid opportunity.
ICF is a leading provider of studies for the European Commission and its agencies. The study means to collect information on the composition (ingredients and nutrients) of food products available in supermarkets. This will contribute to national and EU initiatives to improve nutrition in Europe.
About the role
You will be collecting information by taking pictures of the labels on food products. For this purpose, you will use a smartphone application. You will be part of a team of data collectors and your work will be coordinated by a team of ICF analysts. Prior to commencing the fieldwork, you will be required to download an application on your smartphone and attend a webinar training session organised by ICF.
Upon completing this training session, you will be sent to supermarkets to take pictures of certain categories of products. For each product, you will use the app you downloaded to take pictures of food labels. You will also enter some product details manually into the app. You will then submit your findings through the app to a centralised database.
You will be asked to travel to supermarkets within the capital city of your country of residence, as specified by ICF. The countries/cities in scope are the following:
- Austria (Vienna)
- Belgium (Brussels)
- Bulgaria (Sofia)
- Denmark (Copenhagen)
- Estonia (Tallinn)
- Finland (Helsinki)
- Greece (Athens)
- Hungary (Budapest)
- Italy (Rome)
- Lithuania (Vilnius)
- Malta (Valletta)
- Portugal (Lisbon)
- Romania (Bucharest)
- Slovenia (Ljubljana)
- United Kingdom (London)
There will be a training session (webinar) in October 2019. Work will take place during the week and sessions will last at-least for half a day. Work is expected for several week days in November 2019 and in February-March 2020. There will be no data collection in December or January.
- You should have an Android smartphone.
- You should know how to take and crop pictures on your smartphone.
- You should have regular access to a good internet connection at home or elsewhere, one you can use on daily basis.
- You should be able to travel to retail outlets as specified by ICF (this may require using your own means of travel).
- You should be reliable and able to work autonomously with minimal supervision
- You should be fluent in English and your country of residence's official language
- An interest in nutrition would be an advantage.
- Salary + bonus to reward quality
- No weekend work required
How to apply
Please submit your application by mid-October at the latest, by emailing us on email@example.com with a copy of your CV and a short paragraph to confirm that you meet all of the requirements listed above. We may contact you for a short phone conversation after receiving your application.
