Health Communication Specialist

We’re currently hiring a Health Communication Specialist to work onsite at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.

As a Health Communication Specialist, you will:

  • Create content and disseminate information using a variety of communication formats and platforms, including social media, web, newsletters and video
  • Develop, implement and manage national communication and marketing programs, projects and initiatives
  • Guide development, testing and dissemination of scientific information and audience-based projects
  • Plan and develop internal communication plans, newsletters, internal web sites and publications
  • Support internal communications activities including: highlighting organizational  accomplishments and sharing information on scientific reports via internal communication channels such as a quarterly newsletters
  • Manage content strategy, design and implementation of internal and external-facing websites

As a Health Communication Specialist, you will have:

  • A bachelor’s and/or master's degree in Communications, Marketing, Health Communications, Health Education, Behavioral Science, Public Relations, Advertising, Journalism or related major
  • 5+ years of experience in public relations or a related field
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • The ability to effectively collaborate with team members, as well as the capability to produce work product independently when required
  • An understanding of digital channels and creating communication content that is digitally-optimized for viewing on any screen
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working with the CDC in a communication capacity
  • 3+ year of experience conducting health communication activities as a member of a public health organization
  • Experience working with plain language principles, for example using the CDC Clear Communication Index
  • CDC.gov, WordPress or web content management experience
  • Experience with CDC eClearance and Adobe Campaign
