Data Collection Assistant

Job Description:

The ICF Data Collection & Management Solutions portfolio is seeking a Data Collection Assistant. This position will support the program monitoring data collection efforts for several National Science Foundation (NSF) funded STEM education research, training, workforce development and broadening participation initiatives. The Assistant will work with a variety of team members supporting survey administration, data review activities and various project-related work. This is a junior level, telecommuter position that will support our Rockville, MD office. As a telecommuter, the ideal candidate should be self-motivated and possess excellent communication and relationship building skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct data collection activities, including preparing for collection cycle openings, sending electronic mailing reminders, and fielding respondent questions related to reporting or use of the online data collection systems
  • Participate in data collection progress monitoring, including identifying nonresponse issues, and tracking and conducting follow up activities with respondents
  • Assist with reviewing and maintaining standard data reports, data quality reporting, fielding NSF requests for ad hoc data, and data analysis efforts as needed
  • Assist the Project Managers with monthly progress reporting and data collection status update reporting as needed
  • Conduct data reviews of submitted data, including following established quality review procedures, identifying issues, following up with respondents and performing data edits as needed to resolve issues
  • Assist with the preparation of project documentation including both client deliverables and internal resource documents such as written procedures and instructions
  • Report on assigned data collection and project activities during weekly team meetings
  • Support respondent outreach efforts such as hosting training webinars or attending annual grantee meetings
  • Review and follow established project workplan and adhere to schedule of tasks and deliverables
  • Facilitate project logistics such as scheduling meetings, conference rooms, conference calls, etc.
  • Take meeting minutes and action items during meetings and perform basic follow-up
  • Work within a team environment and with team members with a variety of skill sets
  • Work in a telework/telecommuting capacity with minimal in-person supervision and access to high-speed internet

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in a Social Sciences field
  • Proficient with MS Office, especially Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow established procedures as well as verbal instructions for completing data collection or project tasks
  • Comfortable working with web systems with training  

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Familiarity with MS Project, Sharepoint, and Teams
  • Familiarity with telework technology, including Skype, video, and teleconferencing
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks for competing projects and shift focus, as needed

 Professional Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills and self-motivation are essential to working in our telecommuter environment
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision, and able to sustain strong working relationships and collaborate with other project team members despite working in a telecommuting environment with minimal in-person interaction.  
  • Capable of being a team player and comfortable adapting to change
  • Able to effectively multi-task and prioritize work based on need and urgency
  • Problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze situations, identify issues and recommend solutions
