SENIOR ENERGY RESILIENCE EXPERT

ICF is currently hiring for a Senior Energy Resilience Expert to help advance business development, strategic, and technical initiatives broadly related to resilience for power sector clients and other infrastructure owners/operators.  

The power sector is in an exciting period of innovation and change, with increased attention on resilience. Utilities, regulators, investors, and others have a role in improving resilience throughout the power sector, from long-range planning, investment and grid modernization to regulation, policy, disclosure, and operations. Changes in technology and business models are opening new opportunities and challenges for actors throughout the power sector value chain. At the same time, environmental change poses new and exacerbated risks to assets, operations, and planning.

ICF is actively involved in supporting resiliency efforts across the nation. Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work with an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts in climate modeling, power sector modeling, transmission & distribution planning, distributed energy resources, resilience and master planning, and sustainability/decarbonization
  • Collaborate with ICF experts, clients, and other stakeholders to develop and execute a variety of power market service offerings
  • Use a wide variety of information resources and analytical tools to understand threats and develop resilience solutions for critical energy infrastructures including the power grid, renewable and other energy resources, and emerging technologies such as electric vehicles and energy storage systems
  • Work with infrastructure owners/operators in other infrastructure sectors, whose vulnerabilities are interdependent with power sector vulnerabilities
  • Develop and enhance ICF’s technical capabilities relevant to advancing resilience for cyber-physical systems for the electric power grid and renewable energy systems such as solar fields and wind farms
  • Conduct resilience-related analysis with broad set of ICF experts, national laboratories, academia, and industry
  • Leverage international energy benchmarking expertise in support of energy master planning efforts abroad
  • Contribute significantly to technical approaches for competitive proposals that help drive revenue
  • Assist with Business Development activities that build upon offerings and grow revenue in the power sector by winning new business, cross selling and building a strong pipeline
  • Help build upon existing team and client relationships and contribute to the development of a strategic growth plan
  • Help the team achieve financial objectives and effectively grow and increase the average deal size
  • Help increase visibility in the industry and attract additional strong talent

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • 20+ years of relevant power market experience including expertise in energy resiliency, regulatory support and strategic planning for the energy sector
  • Demonstrated senior experience in energy system resilience with an energy utility
  • Demonstrated success working across and achieving buy-in from executive leadership and functional areas within a utility
  • Depth of technical and strategic experience in the energy sector across electricity generation, transmission, and distribution
  • Demonstrated strategic advising for senior organizational leaders on issues related capital planning and rate cases for
  • infrastructure investments
  • Outstanding reputation with a well-developed and current network of industry contacts
  • Demonstrated experience working in multi-disciplinary teams to produce high-impact results
  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in utility rate case filings and testimony
  • Experience with post-storm/disaster hardening rate cases and program implementation
  • Familiarity with utility finance, including debt and insurance markets; financial disclosures

Professional Skills:

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills, including testimony, podcasts, and other presentations to senior audiences of decision makers
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, business maturity, and sound judgment and be capable of communicating with a diverse range of individuals
  • Ability to develop accounts through serving as a trusted advisor to executives
