Energy Markets Consultant

ICF is seeking an individual to provide support for commercial and government clients on power markets analyses, including system planning and operation, electric grid reliability and resiliency, electric infrastructure development, and energy sector interdependencies. The successful candidate will interface with government, commercial, and industry clients in diverse projects related to electric system operations and improvements, risk and vulnerability assessments, electromagnetic pulse and/or geomagnetic disturbance, and grid hardening measures. Candidates must have strong project management skills and be highly skilled in effective research techniques, writing reports and performing spreadsheet analyses.  They should also have very good communication skills and should be able to communicate highly technical issues to audiences with diverse backgrounds. The position will be primarily based at the client site at the Department of Energy in Washington, DC.

What you will do:

  • Perform research, compile expert input, and write reports on technical electric sector and related energy industry topics.
  • Review studies and assessments performed by others
  • Prepare briefing materials for senior leadership.
  • Support the tracking of project deliverables and funding for projects run by the National Laboratories.
  • Support the development of ICF deliverables to multiple clients.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a PE license and 5+ years’ work experience
  • Background in power systems engineering
  • Strong research, writing, quantitative analysis, and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail, personal commitment to excellence, and enthusiasm to learn all levels of tasks
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to attain a Q/SCI security clearance (existing TS strongly preferred)

What we would like:

  • Demonstrated experience writing reports and preparing spreadsheet analyses
  • Power systems engineering experience at a utility or other electricity company
  • Knowledge of electric sector planning and operations
  • Consulting experience
  • Experience working with the Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, FERC, Department of Homeland Security, or related agencies
