For many passengers, anticipating a dreadful travel experience has become the norm. But is it really that bad?

We reviewed the data and created a “passenger pain meter” for seven traditionally fraught travel moments, and found that while some aspects of the journey—like tight, cramped seating—are not getting better, the airplane passenger experience is improving.

One caveat: there’s no accurate pain meter for traveling alongside an estimated 246 million people!
